A lovely native British tree that grows smaller than most others, such as Oak, making it a great choice for a wildlife friendly garden.
Clusters of creamy white flowers in spring.
Loads of bright red berries in autumn, which birds like blackbirds and thrushes love.
Deciduous - loses leaves in autumn until following spring. Attractive feather foliage.
3 Possibilities
Garden / outdoor space
Grow full size in the ground. Relatively easy to prune later if required. Also suitable for wildlife / rewilding projects. Eg. plant on an empty grass verge. Typical mature height 4 to 10 metres.
Planter
If planted in a large planter, eg. A half whisky barrel it will remain smaller eg 1 to 2 metres. This means it can be grown on a balcony, small backyard, roof garden etc.
Bonsai
Use as bonsai material to create a mini Rowan, less than 50cm tall when mature, in a bonsai pot.
Sent bareroot in damp paper towel.
Sent 1st class in a letterbox friendly box that can be delivered, if you are not in.
On arrival plant in pots with compost. If ordering before last frost grow on indoors or a greenhouse when in leaf so they don't lose them. Then plant out in late spring/ summer and keep well watered.
