A less well known flowering herb
If you have a herb border, a herb patch at your allotment, or a herb planter / window box, then Hyssop is a great addition to your collection.
* Pink/purple flowers in summer. Dark green leaves.
* Height when mature - 30cm to 60cm (12in to 24in)
* A Mediterranean herb, it is drought tolerant, so doesn't need much watering.
* Nectar rich, beekeepers use it to help create aromatic honey.
* One of the main ingredients for the drink Absinthe.
* Used in traditional medicine for cough and sore throat.

Culinary herb that goes well with chicken

* Light pink/purple flowers in early summer. Grey-green leaves.
* Height when mature - 15 to 30cm (6 in to12 in) width - 40cm (16 in)
* A Mediterranean herb, it is drought tolerant, so doesn't need much watering. Thrives in a sunny position.
* A culinary herb said to be spicier than oregano and sweeter than sage. Cut a fresh sprig and use on roast chicken and sometimes beef.
* Can be grown as an ornamental ground cover plant.
* The ancient Greeks burnt it as incense and added it to baths, and was thought to give courage. In medieval times it was used next to bed pillows to prevent nightmares.

As soon as they arrive open carefully, and plant them in compost in a pot, or plant with some compost directly into the garden. Then give them a good watering to help them recover from their journey.
* If ordering in the autumn / winter, they can be grown on a windowsill indoors and planted out the following spring.
