Average last frost date for your county

Spring is here, but plant too early and Jack Frost can destroy all your new tender seedlings. 🥶 Average last frost free date can vary quite considerably. For example the average last frost day on average in Cornwall is the 24th April, whereas in Northumberland it is the 25th May. Aberdeenshire can have frost risk until the 5th July! In contrast, the Isle of Anglesey in West Wales, is free of frost risk, on average, from the 1st of May.

The places that become frost free earlier, also become frosty later, resulting in longer growing seasons. So Cornwall has a frost free growing season of 196 days, Northumberland it is just 129 days long. To check frost dates for your area visit www.lastfrostdate.co.uk

Cold frames, cloches and greenhouses can all help extend frost free growing seasons. See 'grow your own' category.
