Affinity Water that provides water to homes in the Greater London / Homes Counties area have announced that a hosepipe ban could be imposed as early as Spring 2020 if rainfall is not above average over the coming autumn and winter. Areas effected will be;
Parts of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, the London boroughs of Harrow and Hillingdon and parts of the London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing and Enfield, Tendring peninsula in Essex and the Folkestone and Dover areas of Kent, would be affected. The area has a population of 3.6 million people. Hosepipe bans are a pain for gardeners, so one of the best things to do is get a water butt and install it, onto your downpipe. This will fill the water butt over winter, so you have some extra water to use in the garden. Kits range from 114 litres, up to 1050 litres. Available here;

Even if it does rain heavily over winter, and there is no hosepipe ban next Spring, it's still handy to have a water butt in your garden, as it saves money if you have a water meter, and it's close to where your plants are, so you don't have to go far to fill a watering can.
